- Because our health is the most important thing we have, it is crucial to take good care of it. Our immunity system should be constantly strengthened with vitamins, liquids and balanced food. It should also include enough antioxidants.
What are antioxidants?
The cells in our body are constantly being attacked by harmful substances. Among the sources of these harmful substances belong:
→ polluted environment,
→ stress,
→ smoking,
→ unsuitable eating habits,
→ mould.
These harmful substances create in our body so called free radicals, unstable molecules that miss one electron. Free radicals are trying to steal this electron from healthy cells and damage them in the process.
Fighting free radicals
Our body can to some extent fight these free radicals, but if their numbers exceed certain level, the cells and tissues can be damaged quicker. Antioxidants are the ones who can help stop this damage because they have one extra electron and they can use it to feed the free radicals and neutralise their effect.
Where can we find antioxidants?
Fruit, vegetable, tea, spices
Because the strongest antioxidants are mainly vitamins A, C and E, we can find a lot of them in fresh fruit and vegetables, but also in cocoa beans or food rich in phytochemicals (besides fruit and vegetable also spices or tea).
Nature on the plate
To make our fight against free radicals most effective, we should eat as wide spectrum of antioxidants as possible because they complement each other in their effects. We should stick mainly to natural antioxidants and use the chemically improved supplements and vitamins as a plan B. But at the same time, we should eat everything in moderate amount.
Among the food rich in antioxidants belong mainly the richly coloured kinds of fruit and vegetable
In fruit, the richest in antioxidants are:
blueberries, cranberries, currant, raspberries, blackberries and other kinds of forest fruit, cherries, grapes, plums etc. It is also claimed that sea-buckthorn or exotic fruit such as chokeberries, acai, citrus fruit or kiwi.
The same rule applies in vegetable – the richer the colour, the more antioxidants it contains, so most of the antioxidants can be found in:
broccoli, spinach, tomatoes, avocado, paprika, cabbage, carrot or red beet, but we should not forget onion or garlic.
Antioxidants can also be found in spices, herbs and drinks
Great source is for example cinnamon, marjoram, oregano, turmeric, rosemary, dill, mint, sage, thyme or cloves. Among other food rich in antioxidants belong vegetable oils, such as virgin olive oil, full-grain products, legumes, mushrooms, nuts or cocoa beans (ideally unroasted, but you can find antioxidants in high quality dark chocolate as well).
Some beverages have also high amount of antioxidants, for example grape juice, red wine or green tea. Especially matcha green tea contains huge amount of antioxidants because of its unique processing technology.
Why matcha?
Because tea leaves for matcha are processed in a unique way, the finely milled green tea powder contains a wide spectrum of antioxidants.
The tea plantations are covered with nets for the last three weeks before harvest, so that as little sunshine as possible could reach the tea leaves. The leaves then produce enormous amount of the green colourant – chlorophyll.
The leaves are then harvested, steamed, dried with hot air, and milled to a fine powder in such way that they maintain as much beneficiary substances as possible.
Beneficiary substances
- catechins, substances with significant detox effect,
- amino acids, that help keep our mind sharp and simultaneously relax the body,
- chlorophyll, that has strong detox abilities and helps flush out toxins and heavy metals from our bodies.
Vitamin bomb to support your immune system
In Matcha Tea, we can find vitamins A, C, E, that are considered to be strong antioxidant, but there is also trace amount of minerals (iron, calcium, potassium, zinc) and high amount of fibre (claimed to be up to 30 %).
Because when you drink Matcha Tea, you consume the entire tea leaf milled to a very fine powder, your body can use maximum of its benefits that matcha offers and get the absolute maximum of antioxidants. If you also add fresh fruit juice to matcha, honey, ginger or spices, you can make yourself a quick and strong vitamin boost to support your immunity.
The latest antioxidant tests of our matcha were conducted in February 2020.
